The Dead Subject 805

Subject 805: Tactical Containment Unit Operator. So i have finally cracked!! I now have a piece from sideshow toys. I really like the way sideshow handles their business and ive been a customer since i started collecting but i have never once considered purchasing any of their releases......until now.

I guess for alot of people when you first start collecting 1/6 in North America SideShow is a big draw, their price point has been much lower then other company's, they have a good website, they are easy to get hold of and have a very loyal consumer base (freaks forum).

When i was introduced to 1/6 toys it was a medicom storm trooper and
since then i never looked twice at a sideshow release. This year with the announcement of the prometheus body and a couple of other very solid releases ive found myself thinking twice about sideshow offerings. It was my resent ashley wood Robots Vs Zombie acquisitions that attracted me to "the dead". Sure i had my robots but what about the zombies?!?! Subject 805 arrived on my door step a couple of days ago and i was very pleasantly surprised. There arnt that many options when it comes to zombie 1/6 but sideshow has really done a great job with these guys. There have been a few variations on the zombie's that have been released and 805 looks the best from what ive seen.

I got this guy during a nice little sale that corner store comics was having before the launch of their new website, 10% off and i managed to pick him up for about $50 shipped. Sideshow released a domestic exclusive of 300 pcs a regular edition of 1400 pcs and a spooktacular edition of 300 pieces. The spooktacular edition is still available at sideshow for 54.99 before shipping.

The box art is velot. Its all white with bloody red hand prints as the graphic. The box has a ry minimal but i like it asleave rather then the usual flap opening and once the sleeve is removed you have a windowed box that shows you the figure in his trays. The size of the box is great, its pretty slim so its not going 2 give you 2 much drama trying to find a spot to store it. The thing i dont like about the packaging is the the twisty ties!! Trying 2 get 805 out of his tray is a real pain! any figure that isnt using a blister pack should use the simple 2 tray system. The reason for the twisty method still being used is beyond me. Over all though he is well packed and wont be sliding around before you get him.

Now due to the fact i have a couple of other figures that i like to swap weapons around on its a bonus that he comes with an MP-5 and M-92 pistol. The guns have a solid straight sculpt and some blood splatter on them which is a nice touch. The coolest thing i found about the pistol is that the slide on top actually moves! Giving you the option to have the pistol in an "out of ammo" position. There is a headset with radio attachment that is done well and the coil connecting the headset has a nice springy feel to it. Finally there is a little pack of cards with aerial photos a blueprint and some target things but i left them in the box. Nice accessories for a sub $60 figure.

The outfit is pretty good. Its clear that at one point our now zombified friend was a military man who wasn't able to tactically contain things quite well enough. There is great detail in the vest, with functioning pouches and some good mesh. There isnt really a pocket for the Radio but i doubt he would be wearing the headset anymore considering he is missing his lower jaw. Your going to laugh if you try to take off the vest though because the zip is about the same size as the one on your levis jeans. I think although the vest was in 1/6 scale sideshow thought it better to keep the zipper in 1:1. The zip is tucked away nicely so your not going to notice it on the shelf. The coveralls are weathered really well and there is some great blood splatter on the vest and left arm where the fabric has been destroyed from excessive gnawing. The cargo pockets may be a little over sized but not 2 badly. The boots are pretty standard but look good. Overall Nothing to fancy but a pretty good outfit that a zombie can be proud to wear during the apocalypse.

Now ive heard alot of criticism of the Art S Buck body and all of it is true haha. Wow i mean seriously the art S buck is a piece of sheeeeeeet! The funny thing is that using the buck is somewhat fitting on a zombie because it makes him look awkward as hell. If i purchased a regular 1/6 licensed figure and it came on this body i would cry. Lucky for us im judging the art S buck on a zombie charecter and for that it works well. He can make all the usually stumb
ley poses even though it can be a bit frustrating moving him around if ur used to the true type or RAH.
The oh nom nom nomed left arm looks great but doesn't have an elbow joint for some reason so dont expect any straight reaching poses. There are no extra hands which was disappointing, i mean he only has one arm and they couldn't muster up 1 extra hand variation. The right hand is in a gloved pistol grip position which is great if you want him holding a gun but is lame for anything else. I would think a reaching hand is a must have for a zombie figure *tisk* *tisk*.

The head sculpt is the strongest part of this figure, the advantage of a zombie is things dont have to be perfect for him to still look good right, I mean he is supposed to look jacked up. But they have done a good job on the paint apps and I really like the choice of jaw missing with tounge hanging out. The head doesnt have the best movement because the tounge hangs down pretty low but you get enough for some good poses. The eyes could have been a bit blood shot and im not a huge fan of the off to the left gaze but it works.

So over all i was really happy with subject 805 especially at the $50 price point. I think there is some thi
ngs seriously lacking but he is the best zombie licence on the market at the moment in six scale. I hope they move this line to the promethius body 2 give him some better maneuverability but the buck seems 2 fit well on the zombie frame. I dont think i will be collecting to many more of these but its great to have at least one for zombie warfare senarios. If your a zombie fan or you need someone for Bertie 2 beat down on get this guy $55 is a steal.

For what he is an the price he costs im gonna give subject 805 an 8/10

If you miss out on 805 keep an eye out for the next 2 releases which are looking great

Subject 138: Street Prophet
Subject 1206: Mall Santa
