Less is Mort

Well i got to say i was very unfamiliar with this character when i bought it, i guess i still am haha but as a fan of Ashley Woods art and after missing out on Noir and Nom de Plume, I decided I couldn't pass on Les Mort 13. I had seen a few images of the figure and it looked quite good although i wasn't sure what to expect. What i got was my favorite 1/6 release of 08. I knew the body and articulation would be great because he is built on a Medicom 301 and IMO this is the best 1/6 body available (honorable mention 2 the HT true type). Now i know 2008 has been an amazing year for 12" plastic especially in the hot toys department but this was a really outstanding release.

I managed to pick Les Mort up on ebay shipped for $130 which i felt was a great price. Your average medicom or Hot Toy release these days is gonna hurt you for about 150 bones before shipping so anything under that seems to be a bargain these days in the six scale dept. He has long sold out at Bambaland so ebay is your best bet, but you should be able to pick him up around $130 which was the original release price.

The Box art is pretty minimal but looks great. The deep purple with white graphics has a nice effect, you get a sketched portrait of Les Mort on the front flap and 2 bones on either side, the back of the packaging just has the figures name and there isnt really any text information about the figure which is a little disappointing considering this isnt a character that most people know much about. What i really like is that there is art on the inside of the box. Under the plastic trays there is a print of Les Mort standing next to a tree which really looks fantastic while the figure remains in his "prison", nice for the guys who like to keep their toys boxed.

You get alot of good accessories with the Saint of Vengeance and for $130 i think thats how it should be. He comes with 2 pistols, holster belt, hat, cape, super long red scarf a human bone 2 pistol grip hands, 2 fists and 2 relaxed hands. So that 130 price tag isnt hurting as much huh. There is a really great feel to the head and hand sculpts that match the tone of Woods art style, the figure seems to exude a sort of oil paintedness to it (if that makes any sense). They arnt the smooth plastic sculpt that we are used to seeing, they have a kind of texture to them that is hard 2 capture in images but is noticeable in hand.

The Work on the holster belt is great and really detailed, its very easy to take on and off which is a bonus, the guns look good and most importantly are straight! something medicom has missed the memo on recently. The outfit is really well tailored and fits well. The tie sits on top of a shirt that is slightly weathered to an off white. The jacket and pants are a nice slim fit which makes the suit more fashionable. The shape of the shoes is excellent although they do look a little more plastic then leather, a problem that may have been exacerbated if it wasn't a black on black outfit.

The clothing really excels when it comes to the cape, hat and scarf. The cape is very nice and has a really great red silk lining and small zips if you wish to push the arms through for more dynamic pose's. There is also a wire hem that i think should become standard on any cape clad figures. The hat holds its shape perfectly and is just stiff enough to manipulate the brim up or down and then there is the red scarf. Ive heard from alot of people who say they wish there was wire in the scarf... Now i can see where that would be an advantage for a windy day posing scenario but i really really love the way the over sized scarf just hangs onto the ground. Draped around his neck a couple of times your still going to have a couple inches of extra length on the shelve and for me this is a really defining point of the figure. He is so dark that the Red scarf becomes very important graphically and its such a strong focal point of Les Morts Character design i feel it would be ruined if the natural scarf flow was messed with. That being said how hard is it 2 make one up yourself with a bit of wire in the middle lol.

threeA and howtowork has really surprised me with the quality of their releases and its made me regret even more not having the plume figures and also prompted me to investigate into other howtowork lines. Even though they are flying some what under the radar at the moment I think threeA is going to become a heavy hitter in 1/6 community. My wallet may not be happy about that my toy collecting self is grinning from ear 2 ear. If you have a chance get your hands on Les Mort 13 you wont be disapointed. Enjoy the slideshow.
